This Proposal was a Home Run

Adam popped the question and Ali said “Yes!!!” Adam had planned a fun day of tourism in Kentucky. This afternoon they tasted some of Kentucky’s finest at the Maker’s Mark Bourbon distillery, but first they took the tour of the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. I was on the tour as well hiding in plain sight with camera in hand. After learning about all of the specifics that go into the making of these world-class bats we reached the end of the tour where the tour guide explained we could have our own custom bats made with our names printed on them or someone else’s name. He said, “In fact, we can write whatever you would like on them.” Then he handed a box containing a bat to Adam. Everyone on the tour looked to him as he pulled out the bat and handed to Ali. Imprinted on the side were the words “Ali Will You Marry Me?” Adam dropped to one knee and he pulled out Ali ‘s grandmothers ring and said “I love you! Will you marry me?” Of course, the whole tour cheered and applauded. After a few minutes she realized that I had been taking pictures to document the special moment. Then we spent a little time in museum and across the river taking some comfortable portraits of the two of them. Next they were off on their way to Maker’s Mark and Ali began making phone calls sharing the news. It was so fun to be a part. Well done Adam and congratulations to both of you.

Double Feature in Louisville Wedding Magazine

LW - Meghan and James Intro
As a Louisville wedding photographer it’s an honor anytime my work is published and yet this is certainly over-the-top. For the first time ever I have a double feature. Louisville Wedding Magazine is currently featuring two of my recent Louisville Kentucky weddings. Amanda & Andrew’s stunning wedding at the Brown Hotel and Meghan & James’ gorgeous garden wedding at Whitehall are gracing the pages of the magazine’s current issue. I couldn’t be more excited for these couples. Each of these celebrations were so much fun to document. As a wedding photojournalist my job and joy is to document the organic, real moments of the day couples tie the knot. I want my couples to flip through their wedding album and be brought back to the the excitement and significance of their day. I want my couples to remember how they felt on their wedding day. Additionally, I draw their attention to all the unique details that filled their day. In general, magazines are most concerned with with the details so hopefully as you look through the magazine pages below you’ll find some inspiration for you’re wedding. To see more from each of these weddings just click the the links below. A serious shout out is in order for all the other wedding vendors that all made these days reality and most importantly the wedding planner Carol Grisanti and Ellen Fox. I’m so thankful for all of mys great clients who invite me to document this most important day. Congratulations to Meghan & James and Amanda & Andrew!

Destination Wedding in Paris France

Adrien-Eve-Lise-Blog_01
One of the best job perks of being a Destination Wedding Photographer is traveling to Europe. What a joy it was to travel to France to shoot Adrien & Eve-Lise’s Destination Wedding.  They chose to have their wedding at a château in the countryside outside of Paris. They made time in their schedule for us to enjoy all the festivities at the château and for us to also shoot in the heart of the city at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The château which was hundreds of years old is on a spacious property that was a beautiful setting for the wedding. Serendipitously, right next to the ceremony site was an entire field of lavender which matched her bouquet perfectly. We couldn’t pass up that opportunity and had to take some time to walk out into the field. Of course, we also took pictures in front of the château as well as in the nearby woods. All the decorations for both a ceremony and the reception were custom made by hand. Adrien & Eve-Lise’s wedding ceremony was quite unique and filled with emotion. Adrien made all of the desserts for the wedding himself and I have to say they were impressive. According to European tradition, during the multi course dinner, several of the guests performed. Some guests prepared songs, skits, toasts and games, all of which both honored and made fun of the couple. Then it was time for the dance party, that seemed more like a rock concert as the groom was thrown repeatedly into the air as the live band played. Others made their way up to the loft to enjoy a selection of whiskey and cigars. The celebration was a joy for everyone and as always I was honored to get to document the event. Congratulations Adrien & Eve-Lise!

I feel like I just went to France and attended a BEAUTIFUL wedding

Featured in Tops Weddings Magazine

Maggie&Mike-1-2

I was thrilled to see Maggie and Mike’s wedding featured in Tops Weddings Magazine. As a Louisville and Lexington wedding photographer it’s exciting to make it into this Lexington wedding publication that features nuptials from across the region. It’s an honor anytime my work is published in a magazine, but this was over-the-top as the magazine chose to devote six pages of the issue to Maggie and Mike’s gorgeous celebration. I couldn’t be happier for them. Beyond offering wedding photography for Lexington Kentucky I get the distinct privilege of traveling to document couples exchanging their wedding vows across Kentucky and Southern Indiana. I absolutely loved Maggie and Mike’s wedding and it was certainly worth making the trek to the private property in the hills of Southern Indiana.

TopsCover
Everything about it was beautiful and there were unique details everywhere, like the bale of hay by the road leading to the farmhouse that had their initials on it. The setting was absolutely amazing. They exchanged their vows out on the family farm, with rolling green hills, horses, ponds, and lush dark green forest in the distance. Stringed instruments played music chosen by the couple, including some songs to nod at Maggie’s Irish heritage. The couple opted to have a unity tree, which they will plant at their new home. The aisles were sprinkled with flower petals. Simple glass vases filled with flowers provided the aisle décor. The reception was held in a tent on site, draped with fabric and illuminated with paper lanterns, candles and rustic string lights. A mixed array of glass vases bore a variety of flowers in pink, green, white and coral. Each table was marked with photos Maggie took on the farm. The charming celebration combined the rustic and comfortable setting of a farm out of the countryside with elegance and sophistication. The food was excellent and after dinner the party kicked into high gear as the talented live band from Nashville kept everyone dancing long into the night.

The details of the wedding were arranged to showcase the couple’s love of the country and their warm spirits. Rather than picking a simple color scheme, Maggie preferred a mix of corals, pinks, reds and greens in ombré, contrasted against burlap and hay for a rustic touch. The bridesmaids wore dresses in varying styles and shades of coral. They donned boots for photos before stepping into wedges for the ceremony. The groom, groomsmen and ushers wore grey suits with vests, which were swapped for suspenders at the reception. Maggie’s gown was a custom LuLaKate dress with a lace belt. She accessorized it with a gold antique bracelet that bore an “M” initial; it was an heirloom passed from Maggie’s great grandmother to her grandmother, Maggie’s namesake.

Madison and Justin’s Engagement Session

Heckel-Siebart-Eng-Blog_01
I thoroughly enjoyed Madison and Justin’s Kentucky Engagement Session. As a Louisville wedding photographer I love to get out of the city to go create engagement photos out in the countryside. We started the session where their wedding ceremony is scheduled to take place. The property is perfectly Kentucky with horse fencing and a stable in the distance, woods with leaves in fall color as well as rolling green hills, a pond and a beautiful house. It was also a beautiful brisk autumn morning. We had a great time wondering around the property taking pictures and talking about their plans for the big day. As much as I enjoyed the setting, most of all I enjoyed the time getting to know Justin and Madison. They are sweet people and their affection for one another is a joy to observe and to photograph. We also made our way to a variety of other rustic settings on the outskirts of Louisville and even made time for them to lay down on a blanket. I am even more excited about their wedding having spent the time with them.

Amanda and Andrew’s Wedding at the Brown Hotel

Kovacs-Woo-01
Amanda & Andrew’s Wedding at the Brown Hotel was absolutely fabulous. As a Louisville wedding photographer I love Brown Hotel Weddings and this was no exception. Every detail of this black-tie celebration was gorgeous. Most notably, of course, the bride looked simply stunning in her lace dress. So many brides choose to put their hair up, but Amanda’s hair looked exquisite down. Jewish weddings start with the signing of the the Ketubah, the Jewish marriage contract.  This beautiful contract is written in both Hebrew and English and is quite literally a piece of artwork meant to be displayed in the couple’s home for years to come. Family as well as the wedding party gathered to watch with the rabbi as the witnesses signed. After some champagne it was time to head to the formal ceremony which took place in the Crystal ballroom. The room itself is exquisite, but the chairs and impressive Chuppah, a Jewish marriage canopy symbolizing the new home that the couple will build together, made it that much more beautiful. After they exchange their vows to one another, Andrew happily smashed a glass with his foot, kissed his bride and then lead his new wife down the aisle.
Then everyone made their way downstairs to a cocktail hour, complete with first class hors d’oeuvres. Meanwhile the Brown staff along with Ellen Fox of ShaFox Events transformed the Crystal ballroom preparing it for the elegant dinner reception. Andrew and Amanda took a sneak peek at the room and even made time for a couple pictures before the guest made their way to their seats. After the scrumptious multi-course dinner there were toasts, the cutting of the cake and the first dance. Then with all the formalities out-of-the-way the live band got the party started with what is personally my favorite part of Jewish marriage ceremonies my, the Hora. It is a lively dance that involves circling around the couple and then eventually hoisting them above the crowd on chairs. It always makes for great images and is so much fun to be apart of! To my surprise the dance floor was filled with a similar level of intensity for almost the entirety of the night. This crew would not stop dancing for anything it seemed! The whole day was a joy to photograph and I was honored to be apart.
