Kelly and Alex’s Louisville Wedding at Mellwood Art Center

As a Louisville wedding photographer I’ve had the opportunity to shoot weddings all over the city.  As you might expect there are some Louisville venues I have been to many times, but every year I also make my way to new locations.  One such location is in the Mellwood Art Center.  Of course I’m not saying Mellwood is new, but just that it had a room I had yet to shoot in. If fact when my wife and I moved to Louisville one of the first unique places we visited in the city was the Mellwood Art Center during a Frankfurt Avenue Fat Friday trolley hop. That night they were having a wedding show and I spent some time walking around the main event room. Although I have been doing Louisville wedding photography for many years now I had not been back to that room until Kelly and Alex’s Louisville Wedding at Mellwood Art Center last week.

I think you are going to love Kelly and Alex’s wedding in all its DIYed glory! They clearly spent lots of time planning out every detail throughout the entire day and made sure to give everything a personal touch.  Alex and Kelly’s Southern Indiana Engagement Session was a good indicator that these two wanted to do things with their own personal style and the Melwood Arts Center played the perfect blank canvas for all of Kelley’s unique and personal accents. Let me tell you, if you see it in these pictures, Kelley and her team did it themselves! Check out those bright unique bouquets, boutonnieres and centerpieces. All put together by Kelley. Did you notice those rustic logs used as podiums for the flower arrangements? Straight from their own woods. See those feathers accenting each and every beautiful creation? Kelley shot the birds.  Yes, I said shot as in hunt, kill, pluck. They did it all. Her gorgeous wedding dress was even made by her mom!  Everything from the personal seating place cards to hand-dipped and embellished rice crispie treats on twigs, not a single detail went overlooked. Check out all the things she did with corks and don’t miss the little tasty dessert that redefines the term cake pop… so creative. To keep with the rustic and woodsy theme the guests ate with carved wooden silverware. I’m sure this wedding will be making it’s way too many DIY Wedding boards on Pinterest. To get this all done in such excellent fashion Kelley had to be a woman of determination and I believe that even shows in the shot of her putting Alex’s ring in place! These two were getting hitched and nothing was getting in the way of that.  Job well done on a fabulous Louisville DIY Wedding and more importantly congratulations on your new marriage Alex and Kelley!
