TOPS Weddings Magazine is currently featuring another wedding of mine. As a Louisville and Lexington wedding photographer, I am honored to once again have my work in this Lexington bridal publication. The magazine gave a four page spread to Charley and Karen stylish wedding. They got married at Huber’s Winery in Southern Indiana. It was a nice Fall wedding with clouds looming, but the rain stayed away! We had a great time wandering through an apple orchard and vineyard, which were both right next to the ceremony site. They looked great in the afternoon light and I just love how you can see the connection they have. Sometimes people will get upset because it’s overcast. There is a common assumption that you cannot take a great picture without full sunlight, but it is simply not the case. The image below is a perfect example of how clouds can actually make an image much more dramatic. My philosophy when it comes to documenting a wedding story is simple. Tell the story! If it rains we need pictures that show the rain. If it is blazing hot we need some pictures of someone fanning themselves as the sweat drips from their face. If they are die hard UK fans and were taking wedding photos in Lexington right next to the campus why not use the stadium as a backdrop for some images. If it’s windy then veil should be blowing out in that wind. I work with the lighting, conditions and location that are really part of the day. I don’t just deal with them, I embrace them because it’s part of the story. I loved this story and I’m glad the magazine did as well. Congratulations Charley and Karen!
